Dallas Work Injury Attorney: An Arlington, Texas, Police Officer is Injured While in Pursuit of a Criminal SuspectFriday, October 19th, 2012
Arlington, Texas, Police Officer Jason Heisel was injured on Wednesday while engaged in the pursuit of a person wanted for questioning in relation to an illegal narcotics operation.
Tiara Ellis Richard, the spokesperson for the Arlington Police Department, said that the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance in apprehending a suspect. The person sought for questioning was driving a red sport utility vehicle (SUV). At about 4:15 p.m., the SUV was seen on West Pioneer Parkway, and an attempt was made to pull him over. The driver refused and sped to Dalworthington Gardens.
Officer Heisel, who was riding a motorcycle, was involved in the pursuit of the suspect on Estates Drive when the SUV began driving directly toward him. The officer escaped a head-on collision, but the result of the evasive action was that the motorcycle landed on his foot.
Heisel was transported to the Medical Center of Arlington for medical treatment, where he was admitted and then released Thursday morning, according to the police department’s official Twitter account.
The 44-year-old driver of the SUV ultimately drove his vehicle through a fence and onto a field, after which he fled on foot. The Arlington police apprehended him a short time later and admitted him into the custody of Tarrant County deputies.
The suspect was examined at a hospital before being taken to jail. He was arrested on felony drug charges.
